Third Tuesday of Ordinary Time

Third Tuesday of Ordinary Time
28 January 2020

WORD of the DAY

A crowd seated around him told him, “Your mother and your brothers [and your sisters] are outside asking for you.” But he said to them in reply, “Who are my mother and [my] brothers?” (Mark 3: 32-33)

How shall I live this Word?
In this episode, which always amazes us, Jesus changes the information on the cards of our registry office. To the news of the crowd that communicates the presence of His family, He replies with a question: “Who is my mother and who are my brothers?”
The moment is quite critical for the Master. His relatives want to save Him from the infamous accusation of being mad and a friend of Beelzebul, but He does not withdraw from the task of proclaiming the Gospel. After the summons, He sets his gaze on the onlookers, scrutinizes them and, pointing to them, says: “Here is my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of my Father, this is my brother, sister, and mother. ”
The new path of kinship with God has opened up and is passable for those who listen and put into practice His Word. From now on there are no more doubts: by living the Word, attending to it, the will of the Lord becomes clearer in us. The fulfillment of the will of God allows us to enter that great family which is the Christian community and not only through bonds of friendship or sympathy, but even through bonds of blood, bonds of life.

Today I will pray, through You, Lord, I am brother, sister, mother, and You are the Friend and Lord. help us to understand and share Your will for the good, for us and for the world that is shown in Your Word. Help us to do Your will!

The voice of a simple prayer
Lord Jesus, sometimes we regret not belonging to the circle of people who lived next to You. But today Your word reminds us that, to those who have been close to You according to the flesh, You have preferred those who have done the will of the Father. Grant that we may accomplish this will of love, and be able to remain with You forever and ever.
