Third Sunday of Ordinary Time

Third Sunday of Ordinary Time
26 January 2020

WORD of the DAY

As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. (Matthew 4: 18-20)

How shall I live this Word?

Nets are thrown everywhere. According to the word of the Gospel, the nets of the church must gather fish of all kinds, good and bad.
But Jesus chooses. Today’s choice is important, because He is going to call those who will be His closest collaborators. However, He does not favor the powerful to give resonance to His mission. Instead, He turns to the wisdom of the Father: “I bless you, O Father, lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to the little ones.”

Today I will pray to the Master who calls me: “Conquer me, Lord. Draw me to You forever.

The voice of Father Simeon, Cistercian Monk

We recognize the compellingly royal presence of God before us. This entails a change of vision, a change of home, a change of lover…our very heart must churn until all we know is Jesus.
