Second Friday of Ordinary Time

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
Second Friday of Ordinary Time
24 January 2020

WORD of the DAY

He went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him. He appointed twelve [whom he also named apostles] that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. (Mark 3: 13-15)

How shall I live this Word?

“How good God must be if Francis is so good.” Here is the true disciple of Jesus, the one who with attitudes, with sweetness, and with words speaks only of Him, of His goodness and His love for every person.
Here is the chosen apostle who undertakes to continue His mission among the least and most distant. Here is the true follower who, when called, responds with full freedom and generosity because “inspirations make themselves felt in us without our help, but they do not allow our consent without us!” Here is the one who as an imitator becomes a collaborator of God, and becomes a true giant of holiness.
Jesus calls His disciples, He calls them today, He also calls us, and in each of our calls the seed of holiness is sown, which we must make grow by responding with enthusiasm and generosity.
Teach us Lord, to answer your call every day and make us the continual transparency of your love so that it can be said of us as well: if they are so good how good must God be. Help us Lord to remember that it is not beautiful words that speak of You and make us evangelizers and witnesses, but it is the small, daily, concrete facts that speak of love and salvation to every person.
The voice of St. Francis de Sales
As far as possible, we must not make our choice of God annoying. I said this and now I am writing it. I do not want a capricious, confused, sad, pessimistic Christian life, but a piety that is sweet, serene, attractive, and calm. Live in the joy of having chosen this kind of life.
