Solemnity of Mary Most Holy, Mother of God

WORD of the DAY

When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child.  All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds.  And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.     (Luke 2: 17-19)

How shall I live this Word?

The shepherds ‘see’ what the angels had made known to them, what they had told them. They truly recognize what was announced and the enthusiasm is so great that they do not keep it for themselves, but they also make it known to others. The shepherds heard, they gave credit to the proclamation, they experienced that what they heard was true: they saw it; and now they proclaim it in turn. What the angels did in heaven, the shepherds do on earth: they become angels, mediators of the word, to bring others to see what God has promised. This is the missionary dynamic of the Church: the proclamation leads to listening and listening to vision!

Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, bring us to Jesus today and every day of this New Year!  Help us to bear witness to Him with the joy and enthusiasm of those who have met Him so that our life may be silently and deeply missionary!  Amen!

The voice of Pope Francis, 53rd World Day of Peace, 2020

The world does not need empty words, but convinced witnesses, artisans of peace open to dialogue without exclusions or manipulations. In fact, one cannot truly reach peace unless there is a convinced dialogue between men and women who seek the truth beyond different ideologies and opinions. Peace is “a building to be built continuously”, a path we take together always looking for the common good and committing ourselves to keep our word and to respect the law. In mutual listening, the knowledge and esteem of the other can grow, even to the point of recognizing the face of a brother in the enemy.
