WORD of the DAY

Then Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.’” And every day he was teaching in the temple area. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, meanwhile, were seeking to put him to death, but they could find no way to accomplish their purpose because all the people were hanging on his words.” (Luke 19: 45-48)

How shall I live this Word?

The logic of love cannot be held together with the logic of possession. And this above all in our heart. We too can run the risk of haggling in our lives, of remaining tied to thoughts of merit, of buying and selling – even towards God – of having idols (money, thoughts, prejudices, illusions, deceptions …) so that they take the place of the one Lord. The temple of Jerusalem was not born for this, but to this it had come, and also often profaned by a formal religiosity. Jesus continues to teach in that temple, which since childhood had seen Him return “to be about His Father’s business” (cf. Lk 2: 49), and from that temple He reiterates that God’s love cannot be bought. God’s love can only be accepted or refused and requires a lifestyle that follows the logic of the Beatitudes.

Lord, purify our heart so that we will not dwell in falsity and lies.

The voice of Pope Francis Morning Meditation, November 24, 2017

Have I learned to watch within myself, so that the temple of my heart is only for the Holy Spirit? Purify the temple, the inner temple and be vigilant. Be careful, be careful: what happens in your heart? Who comes, who goes … What are your feelings, your ideas? Do you speak with the Holy Spirit? Do you listen to the Holy Spirit? Be vigilant. Be careful about what happens in our temple, within us.
