WORD of the DAY

As he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If this day you only knew what makes for peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will raise a palisade against you; they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides. They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.” (Luke 19: 41-44)

How shall I live this Word?

Jesus is nearing His hour. As He journeys, He sees opening before Him the panorama of His city, Jerusalem. While in the power of His unlimited love, He weeps. The weeping of Jesus reveals the great love of God for human beings, His deep respect to the point of crying, powerless before its rejection of Him and its hardened heart. Jesus enters the city to be killed, because it did not recognize Him. Love dies because it was not loved.
Every moment is Kairos in which we are called to recognize the ‘time of God’s visitation’. Jesus ‘visits us even in our sin. If, out of respect for our freedom, He does save us from evil choices, out of respect for Himself, He saves us in the evil itself’ (S. Fausti).

On this day dedicated to the cloistered nuns, Lord, give to these generous women in a special way, following the example of Mary, to understand how their life leads to peace. Make it clear in our eyes so that we may rejoice in Your visit and Your Presence.

The voice of Pope Francis Morning Meditation, November 19, 2015

Even today Jesus cries, because we have preferred the road of wars, the road of hatred, the road of enmities. “It will do us good to ask for the grace of tears for this world that does not recognize the path of peace, that lives to wage war, with the cynicism of saying it is not doing so. We ask for conversion of the heart.”
