WORD of the DAY

“May Our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father who loved us and through His grace has given us eternal consolation and good hope, comfort your hearts and confirm you in work and word .” (Thes 12: 16-17)

How shall I live this Word?

The first thing that strikes us is the close repetition of the possessive adjective ‘our’: “Our Lord Jesus and God our Father”. What Paul wants to give us here with great evidence is a fundamental truth of our faith. For us who believe, it also becomes the foundation of our life. Existence does not exempt us from very painful experiences that try to weaken our will to ‘weave’, for us and for others, a serene life in the light of justice, goodness, and peace.
Precisely by the grace of God there comes to us an ‘eternal consolation’ (one that does not fail).
Paul also emphasizes the gift of ‘good hope’. Thus the comfort of our heart confirms us, because God acts in us with His Word and His work, giving us the help of His grace.

Lord, thank You for giving me from Your Word Your grace that flows in me and comforts my heart and invites me to be constant in good works.
