WORD of the DAY

While still more people gathered in the crowd, he said to them, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. At the judgment the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here. At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here”. (Luke 11: 29-32)

How shall I live this Word?

The human level of our relationships expects that each person, in contact with one another, have at least some recognition. How many more expectations, in comparison, did people have when approaching Jesus! They try to test the consistency of the prophet, they put Him to the test to see if He really corresponds to their own ideas, to the image that they have made of God: they would almost like to put Him in their pocket!
Many times we experience how the arguments of those around us try to be convincing, presenting us with their points of view as good: so many words that do not edify us, but persuade us to feelings of revenge, vindication, oppression, violence, leaving us with a bitter taste in our mouth … The insurmountable claims of the crowd find their way when they realize that Jesus’ thoughts follow another course, avoiding complacency and human recognition, when they see that the true revolution bears the badge of non-violence and the gift of self. Jesus who does not bend to human logic and lets Himself be swallowed up by death to allow the power of God to manifest itself fully.

Today I will try to enhance those little things that fill the day: the possibility of using one’s abilities, of having time, of having many small resources available that are at the service of creativity and ingenuity. It is I who embellish everything, when aware of the gifts that the Lord has given me, I value them, not to please others, but to satisfy the deep call that I feel in my heart.
