WORD of the DAY

Some of them said, “By the power of Beelzebub, the prince of demons, he drives out demons.” Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven. But he knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste and house will fall against house. And if Satan is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that it is by Beelzebub that I drive out demons. If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your own people drive them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the finger of God that [I] drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe. But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him, he takes away the armor on which he relied and distributes the spoils. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
(Luke 11: 15-23)

How shall I live this Word?

From which spirit does Jesus’ action come? From the Holy Spirit or from the devil? This is the question that the Pharisees asked, in order to justify their position, their defenses, for not being willing to convert, attributing to Jesus the bad spirit and for themselves the good one. They defend each other by judging the other bad. This was also the deceit of the serpent with Adam, making him think evil was good and good was evil. Not only that, they ask for and demand signs. They continue to ask for signs, but they are blind people who think they can see and yet they cannot recognize the Sign already present. His Word is an eloquent sign, and obedience to His Word is worth more than all signs: it is faith, the light that allows us to see, and whoever expects signs, does not get them because they have no faith. Jesus has already given us the “Sign from heaven”, the Cross. He has already given us everything: His life for love of the Father and all of us. Whoever believes in Him and lives in Him, whoever claims power scatters.

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like Yours! AMEN.

The Voice of Pope Francis, Meditation at St. Martha’s 3-27-14

The hearts of these people, of this group, had hardened over time, so much so that it was impossible to hear the voice of the Lord. And from being sinners, they slipped, and became corrupt. It is so difficult for a corrupt person to be able to go back. The sinner yes, because the Lord is merciful and awaits us all. But the corrupt are fixated in their things, which are corrupt. And for this reason they justify themselves, because Jesus, with His simplicity, with the strength of God, was annoying to them”.
