WORD of the DAY

But now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem. What will happen to me there I do not know. (Acts 20: 22 )

How shall I live this Word?

Paul is strongly distinguished by his ability and willingness to get out of the box and not follow the path of tradition when the Spirit asks him to. In the name of Jesus and the Spirit, Paul acts and seems to let himself be used by them. This abandonment to the Spirit is in no way mild and tranquil. Here Paul himself defines it as a constraint. Forced, prisoner of this presence, he moves onto new roads. Nothing is spared him and he must use all his intelligence, cunning, culture, and competence to extricate himself from the situations in which he finds himself.
In his spiritual testament, delivered here to the elders of Ephesus, the contradiction that in the name of Jesus he lives in himself becomes very clear. He goes to Jerusalem but does not know what will happen to him. He lives day by the day moved solely by the Spirit, and in the events that happen to him, he seeks to proclaim the Gospel. Constriction will really become imprisonment. But the walls of every prison where he will be found become new roads that will accelerate the journey of the Word!

Lord, we pray for Pope Francis. In our times, more than anyone else he resembles Paul and his courage. The great opposition, the denigrators do not take away from him the desire to proclaim with authenticity the Gospel of Christ and only that!

The Voice of the Sequence of the Holy Spirit
Thou in toil art comfort sweet;
Pleasant coolness in the heat;
Solace in the midst of woe.
