WORD of the DAY

Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” (Mt 28: 8-15)

How shall I live this Word?

With the resurrection of Jesus the whole course of history changed. There are those who are content to close the stone of the tomb, deceiving themselves that everything is forgotten. The ideological constructions of man would like to overlap with the reality of facts and harness the opinions of the masses according to their own advantage. But outside of the abstraction of books and interpreters, as opposed to those who would like to regulate the course of things with the power of money, there is a real and concrete life, for anyone who has the courage to look at it, renouncing any fiction. It is here that it is possible to meet the Lord in flesh and blood, when He shows a truth that is presence and life, when He loves to meet the least, to confide His secrets to those women who had little chance of being believed. A Lord who loves to trample the streets of everyday life, often dusty and difficult, but which remind us of who we are. It is this story, our history, that determines the world: everything today is entrusted to my choice.
“Do not be afraid!” The risen Jesus greets the women with this reassurance. Today I wish to remind myself that the measure of my being a Christian is proportionate to the fearless joy I feel in my heart, and to the care I have in cultivating it and making it grow.
