Week 3 of Ordinary Time

WORD of the DAY

His mother and his brothers arrived. Standing outside they sent word to him and called him.  A crowd seated around him told him, “Your mother and your brothers  [and your sisters] are outside asking for you.”  But he said to them in reply, “Who are my mother and [my] brothers?” And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers.  [For] whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.       (Mark: 3: 31-35)

How shall I live this Word?

Once again Jesus is targeted. His mother and family members are also involved in order to have more force in a negative judgment regarding His preaching and His daily closeness with people. He continues to amaze those who listen to Him with the proclamation of the Good News, but even the crowd itself calls Him and wants to reduce Him to silence, to return to His house. But the Teacher’s response, as usual, destabilizes and revolutionizes the restrictive practices of those who would like to identify the Savior of the world as merely the leader of a sect, a preacher of a small group. He overcomes the distances, cancels the walls of separation, and calls His brothers, sisters, and mother whoever does the will of God. A wonderful and exciting pronouncement for us who cannot be close to him physically and yet are called to be His blood relatives if we follow the path of His Gospel.

In prayer, I will thank Jesus for calling me to be part of His family, He is God who is close, who became one of us, our home.

THE VOICE OF Saint Pope Paul VI

Every mother is made in the image of Moses.  She does not enter the promised land; she prepares a world that she will not see.  More or less, we all live by what a woman has taught us in the dimension of the sublime.
