Week 3 of Ordinary Time

WORD of the DAY

Amen, I say to you, all sins and all blasphemies that people utter will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness but is guilty of an everlasting sin.

(Mark: 3: 28-29)

How shall I live this Word?
Jesus, the Holy One, the Lamb without blemish who heals those who turn to Him, is accused of being possessed by demons, by Beelzebub. “He casts out devils by the prince of demons”, the scribes say. The Teacher responds with an indisputable statement: How can satan cast out satan? A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand”.
But what is the sin against the Holy Spirit? Those who speak like the scribes become incapable of receiving forgiveness. A Biblist comments, “Can one who closes his eyes see? He cannot. Can one who has his mouth shut eat? He cannot. Can one who does not close the umbrella of slander receive the rain of forgiveness? He cannot. Forgiveness would pass by him and would not reach him. It is not that God does not want to forgive. God always wants to forgive. But it is the sinner who refuses to receive forgiveness!”

Today in my prayer I will call on the Spirit, the interior Teacher, to illumine me and guide me on the road to Jesus.

The Lord has shown His salvation. He has revealed His justice to the eyes of the people. He has remembered His love, His fidelity to the house of Israel.
