Third Monday of Advent

 WORD of the DAY

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Abraham became the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers… (Matthew  1: 1-2)

How shall I live this Word?

This long list of names may seem dry to us and difficult to understand because we ignore the stories, the faces that are behind the list of people cited.  The evangelist gives us the human events, made of good and evil, of virtue and sin to show us that Jesus belongs to the flesh of Israel.  It is precisely this succession of generations that the promise of the Messiah, the Savior approaches and comes close.  Finally, it reaches Emmanuel, God with us.  He is the miracle never before seen throughout the centuries of history.  So much so that the prophet exclaims, “What other God is so close?”

Today I will take time to pause in silence and deep adoration before the mystery of God present in my life.

The Voice of Silvano Fausti, Biblical Scholar

‘The Book of the genesis of Jesus Christ’ is the title of Matthew’s Gospel.  It narrates the birth in time of the Son of the Eternal Father who became our brother.  Jesus is seen as the new genesis of humanity, beginning and apex of the world created by God.
