Twelfth Thursday of Ordinary Time

     Week Twelve of Ordinary Time

 WORD of the DAY

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.     (Matthew 7: 21)

How shall I live this Word?

Matthew is among a community that is rich in enthusiasm and faith.  The Christians of Corinth prophesy, work exorcisms and miracles in the name of the Lord, but this is not enough.  The Good News of the Gospel must pass through daily life.  Yet again, the Teacher requires  a very real response to His teachings.  Those who want to follow Jesus must do so in a radical and total way.  The journey of the sequela is expressed in small daily steps and accomplishes God’s will, the one supreme desire of the Son and of all those who want to follow Him.  A faith that does not flourish in concrete life is worth nothing, it is dead.

In prayer I will offer Jesus my time, my life so that He may bless every instant of my day.

The Voice of Roger Schultz, founder of Taize

A life of communion with God is not realized in dreams suspended between heaven and earth.  It is rooted in the concreteness of situations.  It assumes the contradictions of human life including that of contemporary society.
