Seventh Saturday of Easter

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD

Seventh Saturday of Easter  May 19, 2018

 WORD of the DAY

There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.  (John 21: 25)

How shall I live this Word?

We have now reached the eve of the solemnity of Pentecost! In this week I have tried to take together with the reader, a path of preparation to arrive prepared to welcome the outpouring of the Spirit on each of us on this holy day.

Today’s text of the chosen Word is the end of the Gospel of John. The Author tells us that “the things accomplished by Jesus” have been many and that “the world itself would not be enough to contain the books that would be written”. And then those things that Jesus told us, and that were collected in the four Gospels, have not yet been assimilated by us in all their depth, and many of them still escape us almost completely. This is why Jesus himself, well knowing all this, promised to send His Spirit to teach us.

“I will pray to the Father and he will give you another Paraclete to remain with you forever, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot receive because it does not see Him and does not know Him. You know Him because He remains with you and will be in you […]. I told you these things while I’m still with you. But the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have told you “(Jn 14: 15-17; 25-26).

I pause shortly to emphasize the verb that expresses the action of the Spirit within us: He “will remind you of all that I have told you”. This verb is “to remind” (from the Latin ‘recordor’, where we note the root – cord ‘heart’) that expresses well the operation of the Spirit in bringing back to the heart – and not only to the intellect – all that Jesus told us in His Gospel.

I wish myself and all of you, dear friends of San Biagio, to be “docile” to the Paraclete Spirit in this specific work of bringing back to our heart all that our only Master has taught us.

Let us remember that only the Spirit makes us contemporaries of Jesus Christ!

Lord; You guided Your people from the old to the new covenant, grant that freed from the corruption of sin, we may be fully renewed in Your Spirit.

The voice of Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, Preacher of the Vatican

Thank you, Spirit Creator, for the light of Christ that You have made to shine in our minds, for His love that You effused in our hearts, and the healing that You worked in our sick bodies…Simply because You are, now and for all eternity, Holy Spirit I thank You!
