EASTER THURSDAY, April 5, 2018

WORD of the DAY

For you first, God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways.   (Acts 3: 26)

How shall I live this Word?

This verse closes Peter’s discourse after the healing at the Beautiful Gate.  The discourse had passed through various phases:  it was announcement and denouncement, but it closes with a message that is consoling and that will become the life program for the first evangelizing action of the apostles.  God sends the risen Jesus to the house of Israel.  If they did not understand Him alive, they can now believe Him as Risen.  It implies the forgiveness of the homicide committed.  Resurrection is new life for everyone.  What the incarnation of God did not allow for understanding because the human body of Jesus, like a veil, would not allow seeing the divine immediately, the resurrection can now do.  Wherever the apostles went from now on, they will first go to the Jewish community that is dispersed.  If they are not accepted, they will go to others.  The Christian community has its roots in the Jewish community that ‘turned away from evil ways’ to accept the Risen One.

Lord, we pray for our Jewish brothers and sisters.  Their faith is the mother of our faith.  Thanks to them, we have Jesus.  thanks to them, we have the Word and the prolonged desire.  May they be inspired by our life.

The voice of the Catechism of the Catholic Church

With His death, Christ freed us from sin; with His Resurrection, He gave us access to new life.
