WORD of the DAY

Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mt. 20: 28)

How shall I live this Word?

We add to what we meditated on yesterday, to give life.  Becoming a servant has as it ultimate end, the gift of life.  Gift is the interpretative category of this whole anti-egocentric movement.  The gift of life enlarges that movement infinitely, totally.  It is a movement of love, a way of interpreting it that implies relationship, contact with the other, sharing, compassion.  It is so radical as to dedicate life to it.  life only grows if it is consumed, only if one lives and dies to generate other life.

The intention action of giving life redeems the impediment that determines the non-generativity of the other and opens them to life as well.  The words of Jesus anticipate and comment on what will be His experience on the Cross: life given for the redemption of many, for their good, for all the good possible.

Lord, little experiences of the gift of life, brighten our days and allow us to understand, admire, and adore the mystery of Your death on the cross.

The Message of Mother Teresa

The less we have, the more we give.  It seems absurd, but this is the logic of love.
