Week Three of Ordinary Time
WORD of the DAY
“The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; so, ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest”. (Luke 10: 2)
How shall I live this Word?
The feast of the two faithful disciples of St. Paul allows us to give continuity to yesterday’s reflection. Authentic evangelization is generative. The conversion of one provokes others to think and question themselves. Faith is a gift of God, but the mediation of its witnesses is indispensable. Faith grows in us thanks to the faith of those around us. Words and gestures mediate it and activate the common search for how to incarnate it in all aspects of life. Living and working together allows for sharing that brings liturgical communion to spread in every moment of life. Sometimes we reduce the transmission of faith to catechism or to liturgical dates that are found juxtaposed to each other in a passive way, even annoying and tiring. The Christian community cannot limit itself to this.
Timothy and Titus were with Paul, builders of community in contexts in which the Word of God was being enculturated. They did not merely defend the faith that the Jewish experience of Jesus Christ the apostles could give testimony to. They grasped the heart of the proclamation of Christ and they re-phrased it, re-wrote it, and re-lived it according to new categories, leaving behind the mental and cultural structures into which they were born and that had defined them as persons. Today, we need pastors, witnesses, educators, consecrated persons, mothers and fathers, and young people who do the same.
Lord, send workers of every kind into Your harvest. Let them not be afraid of work, but with courage love, believe, and hope in every man and woman of our world.
