FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
December 18, 2017
Third Monday of Advent
WORD of the DAY
O Sacred Lord of ancient Israel,
who showed yourself to Moses in the burning bush,
who gave him the holy law on Sinai mountain:
Come, stretch out your mighty hand to set us free.
(O Antiphon for Magnificat)
Lord, Adonai…the second Antiphon shows forth the essence of the Lord God. He is a powerful Lord, the liberator, and He accompanies his people with His presence and with His Law.
He is a Lord who directs, remains behind His people, and never loses sight of them. The closeness of this Lord is such that He becomes human and leaves the imprint of Adonai on a baby. Biblical memory is connected to the Exodus: Pasch, liberation, the desert journey, temptation and sin, redemption, the Promised Land. These are the phases of the people’s history through which they grow and become aware of themselves. These are phases similar in our life, made of ups and downs, of fidelity and infidelity, always accompanied by a presence of authority that helps us to get up again and gives meaning even to our falls.
Lord, come to free us, Your strong arm saves those who are in most difficulty!
The Voice of Anonymous
O Adonai: The invocation to come to redeem humanity with arm extended finds its response in the arms of Jesus stretched out on the Cross.
