Tenth Thursday of Ordinary Time

June 15, 2017

Thursday of Week X in Ordinary Time

WORD of the DAY

For we do not preach ourselves* but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves for the sake of Jesus. (2 Corinthians: 4: 5)

How shall I live this Word

Those who preach themselves are the ones who easily show their abilities, or the ones they think they have, aggrandizing what appears, but which in substance is not there.  Paul strongly affirms what He has done with his life converted to the Lord, a continual and total service in serving the brethren by preaching the Gospel to them.

This theme of service does not only belong to Paul but is the deep life of every Christian precisely because Christ Jesus Himself said: “I have not come to be served but to serve”.

Lord, help me to avoid all rhetoric and aggrandizing my small ego.  Teach me humility in serving with love and preaching You with my life.  Make me a true follower of Yours and that is enough.

The Voice of Francesco Guccini, Famous Italian Singer

The self-interested ‘do goody’, the dignity made of emptiness, hypocrisy that is always right and never in the wrong, is a god who is dead.
