Fifth Tuesday of Eastertide

May 16, 2017

WORD of the DAY

Peace  I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you.          (John 14 : 27)

How shall I live this Word?

These words of Jesus are part of His discourse at the Last Supper.  They are like His spiritual testament.  Jesus prepares His disciples for the future when He will not be physically in their midst but another Consoler, the Holy Spirit, will come and bring them peace as a wonderful gift.

Peace is not only the absence of war, nor the fruit of compromise, but it is fundamentally, the totality of the Messianic goods, the serenity and joy of concord and of reciprocal respect.  It is the peace born from the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross and of the joy of His resurrection.  It spreads through people who incarnate the message of Jesus.

Lord, grant to all people the gift of concord and of peace.

The Voice of the Liturgy

Lord Jesus Christ, You told Your Apostles: I leave You peace, my peace I give you”, do not look at our sins but at the faith of Your Church and give it unity and peace according to Your will!
