FIFTH MONDAY OF EASTERTIDE

WORD of the DAY

Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.  (John 14 : 23)

How shall I live this Word?

Jesus reminds us that keeping God’s Word means loving God from the depths of our heart with concrete actions, attitudes, and words in conformity with love.  Today, Jesus’ teachings are transmitted by the Church, the faithful interpreter of His divine words.  It we allow them to penetrate our heart, we will show our love for God and for our neighbor throughout our life.

Love transforms our existence and positively influences the life of others.  The Christian who loves God, even with many quiet acts, proclaims that God is love and asks every person to imitate Him by helping those in need, in difficulty; consoling the sorrowful; going out toward others.

If I succeed to identify myself with the other person and am able to see their need and help them, I am imitating God’s compassion and goodness.  The Holy Spirit illumines us and arouses people to be loving toward others in actual deeds according to the needs of the times.

Lord, grant that I may imitate You in Your great love for every human being and help me to reach out to those in need.

The Voice of Pope Francis Audience of May 20, 1916

Allow Christ’s love to be poured out in you.  This is the love from which His disciples draw and on which they are founded.  Each of us can be nourished and fed by this love.  From Jesus comes the grateful love we pour out on our sisters and brothers, in our homes, in our families, in society, and this communicates the mercy of God.
