WORD of the DAY
So if the son frees you, then you will truly be free. (John 8:36)
In today’s Gospel, Jesus begins by saying that where He is going, His listeners cannot follow. In fact, they cannot follow Him if they remain in their sins, if they refuse God’s invitation for to do this, distances us from God who is the source of all holiness.
Jesus then specifies that if they do not believe Him and accept that He is the I AM, they will die in their sins. We know that the words “I AM” refer to the name that God uses in defining Himself to Moses; “I AM WHO AM”. He is the one who always exists and is efficaciously present in the life of the people and in each individual.
Only Jesus can make us free from sin if we consent…then we will be truly free, free to do His will without any constraints. We will be free to be entirely of God, to follow His commandments for our own realization as human beings made in God’s image.
O, Lord, grant that I may be truly free to be all Yours and no longer a slave to sin.

Life without freedom is like a body without the spirit.
