Fifth Wednesday of Ordinary Time

WORD of the DAY

Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile.  (Mark 7: 15)

How shall I live this Word?image078- worship

Still today, where there is superstition or ignorance, there are people who believe that eating certain foods and not performing certain magical rituals can harm their soul.  Jesus instead, calms us and opens a path of freedom to us.  I should not be a glutton, but enjoying good, well-cooked food, that is appetizing is fine.  God has given us the lovely perfume of the camellia as well as a fine plate of ravioli or lentils and we thank Him for all of this.  What we live and breathe with simplicity of heart and the choice of being moderate in our life so that we can share with others is good for us and those around us as well.

What Jesus is forcefully denouncing are words that come from our mouth and contaminate the heart.  Whenever they are offensive, disrespectful, malignant, angry, sarcastic, bitter, they are contaminating for me and those around me.  Words pronounced with wisdom and love bring peace and joy.

Lord Jesus, give me wisdom and the responsible use of words.  Never let me speak in anger, violently, or offensively to another person.  What is good and just need not be shouted but pronounced with serenity and assurance.  Grant me Your Holy Spirit to help me use words that are the expression of joy and peace for everyone.

The voice of Paul Wilson, Author

Make it a habit to look for the positive side in people and in situations.  You will discover that this attitude alone leads to optimism and positivity.  And both lead to serenity.
