Fifth Tuesday of Ordinary Time

WORD of the DAY

He responded, “Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.  (Mark 7: 6)

How shall I live this Word?image047- creation

Jesus did not come to annul the Old Covenant or the law of Moses or the holy traditions of Israel.  He came to perfect them and free them from the clutter of formalisms that had been deposited on all that goodness of God.  It is always like this.  When we ignore the interiority of religious practice, we are like those who have good fruit and eat only the rind.

According to the Bible, and also according to a healthy vision of reality illumined by Jesus, the human center is the heart.  Not the heart of cheap romances, but that of thinkers and poets, of the Sacred Scriptures that know the center of a human being is in all its psycho/spiritual reality.  Thus, it is both strong and beautiful that Jesus places in discussion a prayer of words without heart, a mentality and a vision of the world where humans forget the ‘reasons of the heart’ to serve egotistical interests that consist only in gaining wealth, amassing things, and pursuing pleasure.

Lord Jesus, together with You and with Your help, I am here to ask for the grace of interiority.  Grant that I may want what You want, not in words, but with the strong communication of Your Word.  Help me understand that Your very Word is the refuge from all that is not authentic.
