Fourth Week of Ordinary Time
WORD of the DAY
“Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you.” (Mark 5: 19)
There are many who are seeking the true life who is Jesus. Sometimes, this search is also by those who do not know that God Himself has been seeking us for a long time. There are many occasions in which we can have the experience of finding Jesus and touching by hand His power of healing, of consolation, of mercy. This causes gratitude to be reborn in our heart for all His love for us and the joy of sharing it with others by proclaiming the Good News.
To Proclaim the Good News means ‘to announce what the Lord has done for you’! In today’s Gospel, the man healed by Jesus wants to ‘follow Jesus’, but Jesus says, “go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in His pity has done for you”. This phrase of Jesus is now addressed to you and to me, to all of us. May our following of Jesus be the proclamation of His goodness through His words, deeds, thoughts and sentiments. We can start by announcing Him to those nearest us, our dear ones, the family members who need a word of hope and a heart that warms because it is full of love. How great is the goodness, O Lord, which you have in store for those who fear You, and which, toward those who take refuge in You, You show in the sight of the children of men! (Psalm 31)
The voice of Pope Francis in the Angelus of January 22, 2017
The Lord reveals Himself to us, not in an extraordinary or striking way, but in the ordinary of our life. Thus it was for the disciples when He calls them in the normal work of their days. This happens for us as well, in the daily grind of our life. We must find the Lord there; He reveals Himself there. He makes us feel His love in our heart; there in the dialog with Him in our everyday life.
