WORD of the DAY
Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
(Mark 2, 27-28)
“The Sabbath was made for man”. This affirmation strikes at the heart of every moralism and formalism. Yet again, Jesus confronts the insidiousness of the Pharisees with the clarity and freedom of a religion of love that is not opposed to the Law and to Worship, but it does not turn them into absolutes. The seventh day, the Sabbath, is the time for liberty, for joy. The Christian must be a Sabbath person. Unfortunately, this liberating perspective is not accepted by many today. Too often, a vacation is a time of fatigue, daze, frustration.
Let us ask the Spirit to help us to live leisure time in freedom, love, in true peace.
The Voice of St. Augustine
We ourselves will be the seventh day.
