First Thursday in Ordinary Time

WORD of the DAY

Take care, brothers and sisters, that none of you may have an evil and unfaithful heart, so as to forsake the living God.  Encourage yourselves daily…We have become partners of Christ if only we hold the beginning of the reality firm until the end.  (Hebrews: 3: 7-14 )

How shall I live this Word?community

The author of Hebrews gives us fair warning of the care we must take so that we may not have an evil and unfaithful heart that leads us to forsake the living God.  How to do this in a world that seems to want to rip us away from any belief in a living God?  Jesus showed us in yesterday’s Gospel…a living relationship with God: Father…Son…Spirit.  This is how we can encourage ourselves daily and be firm to the end.

Whether it be in religious communities, in families, in workplaces, in civil society, our only stronghold is our firm belief in God, a loving God who surrounds us with the miracles of His love at each moment.  He alone is the foundation of all healthy relationships, of love that matures and gives, of generosity in forgiving.  Certainly, our fragmented world does not offer us this.  Jesus offers us the way to put it back together as He dreamed it from the beginning; one by one, person by person, community by community.  Courage, Jesus is our strength.

With God all things are possible!

The Voice of Psalm 95

Come, let us bow down in worship; let us kneel before the Lord who made us.  For he is our God, and we are the people he shepherds, the flock he guides.
