First Monday in Ordinary Time

WORD of the DAY

In these last days, he spoke to us through the Son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe. (Hebrews 1: 16 )

How shall I live this Word?Jesus_103_small

As we enter into Ordinary Time, we have the affirmation that God speaks to us through His Son, His beloved, who is the heir of all things and through whom all was created.  It is good to be reminded of this in times when truth is sought in many places except where it can be truly found.  Jesus’ Word is Light and Life; He shows us the path to the longed-for peace that is so elusive in our times.  As we watch in horror at the ‘world war in pieces’ as Pope Francis so aptly defines it, we realize more deeply how much in need we are of peace.

Jesus tells us to ‘love our enemies’, to make goodness overcome evil.  By now, it is evident that stockpiling weapons does not bring peace.  Sometimes the weapons are the harsh words we use in our own families, communities, workplaces.  Sometimes they are just as deadly in killing the spirit of others.  In this new year the Lord has granted us, let us be persons of peace.  How?  By assimilating Jesus’ Words, making them alive in us, in our day to day relationships, in our gestures of friendship, respect, caring, compassion, mercy.

Dear Lord, permeate me with Your Word that it may live in me and shape my words, deeds, thoughts.  Let me be Your peace in the world where I live and work.  I rely on Your help at each moment.

The Voice of Fr. Tadeusz Daiczer

Ignorance of the Holy Scriptures is ignorance of Christ (St. Jerome).  Listening intently to the Word of God will influence your choices and decisions.  You will want them to be in accordance with his teachings and his desires.
