CHRISTMAS THURSDAY

WORD of the DAY

But whoever keeps his word, the love of God is truly perfected in him. This is the way we may know that we are in union with him.    (1 John 2: 5)

How shall I live this Word?christmas-22

If there is an apostle whose words have the best guarantee of being the holy Truth it is precisely John, the youngest and dearest follower of Jesus.  How many of Jesus’ teachings he was able to listen to and deeply assimilate in his heart!  This is why we can be filled with joy when the passage says: God is truly perfected in him.

What God wants from us is listening to His Word and living it.  This is living our days in the Light of the Word and thus living a Life of LOVE.   Our heart can be continually assured if we do this.  We will be in Christ Jesus; life will be illumined in His and will find its meaning.  We will have the energy needed to give of ourselves in our family, at work, and everywhere.  It is the life style of an authentic Christian, the prolongation of Jesus in our time.

Show me compassion that I may live, for your law is my delight.

Shame the proud for leading me astray with falsehood, that I may study your testimonies.

Let those who fear you turn to me,

those who acknowledge your testimonies.

May I be wholehearted toward your statutes,

that I may not be put to shame.

                                                      (Psalm 119)

The Voice of Chiara Lubich, Founder of the Focolare Movement

We are always in a time of war.  When the air raid alarm rings, we can only bring a small book with us into the shelter: the Bible.  We open it and the words, although already well known, illumine us with a new charism as though a light were lit under them.  They inflame our hearts and we are urged to put them into practice immediately.  They all attract us and we try to live them one by one.
