Fourth Friday of Advent

WORD of the DAY

Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea.  All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be?” For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. (Luke 1: 65-66)

How shall I live this Word?baby

Today we contemplate the birth of John the Baptist.  From the moment of the announcement of his birth we saw facts that spoke of God’s presence, events of love that enter into history to renew it and redirect it.

The news of the birth of a baby is always a motive of joy and marvel, recognizing the continuation of the life that only God can give.  Even more so, when we see so many babies born into situations that are anything but simple.  But God acts, and just as for the Precursor, every baby is born within a project of Love that is unveiled each day.

Let us enter into our heart and try to imagine the marvelous moment of our birth: surely many friends and acquaintances asked themselves: “What then will this child be?”  Even of us it was said, “surely the hand of the Lord is with this child”.

God reveals Himself in every birth.  God dreams great things for us; we are the manifestation of His love.  We are the revelation of God’s dreams.  Is it truly this way in our life?

All the ways of the Lord are truth and grace

For those who observe His covenant and precepts

The Lord reveals Himself to those who fear Him,

He makes them know His covenant.  (Cf. Psalm 24)

The Voice of Pope Francis (June 24, 2014)

A Christian proclaims the Lord, not self.
