Fourth Tuesday of Advent

WORD of the DAY

Behold the handmaid of the Lord.  Be it done to me according to your word.

(Luke 1: 38)

How shall I live this Word?Jesus'conception

We cannot remain silent before the God who speaks to us.  We need to respond; it is urgent that we respond.  God always speaks to us.  Our life is full of His messages of love, of tenderness, of needs, of trust, of challenges because He counts on us, on each of us.  By responding, we let ourselves be freely involved, recognizing what we are.  Mary responds by presenting herself to God: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord”.  What can we say before God?  ‘Behold’, and each of us can continue.  Mary listened, received, and believed the Word of God, and responded, “Be it done to me according to your word”.

What is the Word with which God is speaking to my heart, to my life?  What must I do to receive it?

Mary, young woman and mature in the faith, help me to respond as you did, without conditions and without limits.  Let me say ‘Fiat’ with you.

The Voice of Pope Francis in a Homily on July 31, 2016

Let us turn to Mary, She who carried Christ in her womb and accompanied the first steps of the Church.  She will help us to put Christ and His Church at the center of our life and our ministry.  She who was the first and most perfect disciple of her Son, will help us to let ourselves be conquered by Christ to follow Him and serve Him in every situation.  She who responded with deepest humility to the Angel’s message: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord.  Be it done to me according to your word”, will help us to feel shame for our inadequacy in front of the treasure that is entrusted to us, to live humility before God.
