From the Word of the Day
‘I tell you, to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. (Luke 19: 26)
This parable of Jesus seems just the opposite of current logic and justice. Usually, our heart is touched by the indigence of someone and we give something. We would never dream of helping to enrich someone who was already rich.
Here, we must study the evangelical meaning. Who is Jesus alluding to when speaking of those who have and those who have not? Jesus wants us to understand that those who live according to His teaching, enrich themselves spiritually because their capacity for love increases as their intention is to do good to everyone! Because grace has not been in vain in them, this attention to others allows them as well to abound in grace upon grace.
Instead, those who do not have are those of whatever social condition, who are not open-hearted, are indifferent to the needs of others, impermeable to the Word of the Lord, they end up losing even the spiritual goods they had.
Lord, grant me an open and clear heart. Grant that I may even lose everything, but You and Your love and grace urge me on.
The voice of Theresa of the Child Jesus
It is incredible how big my heart feels when I consider all earthly goods, because all of them cannot make it content. Instead, how little it feels when I consider Jesus! I want to love Him so much!
