From the Word of the Day
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1: 13-14)
Today’s passage continues to present us how this is our spiritual blessing in Christ. In Him, we have been chosen, we have redemption, and we are heirs. In Him, we mature our awareness of all that, by listening to the Word, we have decided to believe what it says and accept the Holy Spirit in us in a responsible way. He is the ‘deposit’, an anticipation of the heritage that reassures us and that allows us to go ahead.
This last part of the hymn describes the ordinariness of our condition, immersed in a reality, even if somewhat banal in which we live, does not stop us from discerning what the Word of God means as it is revealed to us in the things that happen to us, in the people we meet. It is in this way that we receive the gift of faith as well as build our faith and make it grow. With the deposit God gives us, with that initial investment, we give life to new enterprises that generate the good, and prolong the creative and salvific action of God in our times.
Lord, help us today to use the occasions we have of being protagonists of Your salvation, entrepreneurs of Your love, of Your desire for the good that wishes to reach everyone.
The voice of Psalm 130
Lord, if you consider our sins, who can resist? But with You there is forgiveness, O God of Israel.
