27th Saturday in Ordinary Time

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD

From the Word of the Day

“Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” (Luke 11: 28)

How should we live this Word image004-light to my feet

The wisdom of Jesus that attracted the crowds one day elicited the admiration of a people who, seeing an incomparable greatness in Mary’s Son, exploded in the cry: “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you”.  Jesus’ response is immediate.  Certainly, He was far from being unwilling to appreciate His Mother.  However, He is interested in showing the identity of a true Christian which is often confused and obscure.

As Jesus said, true believers are those who live day by day on the solid rock.  What is this rock whose solidity resists floods, earthquakes, and other ecological disasters?  The response is as vivid as the sun and is something that makes us blessed. Yes, those who are faithful each day to God’s Word, especially the daily Liturgy of the Word, are truly blest.

The consequence of this persevering fidelity is peace of soul, a restful heart, an ever new discovery of the light that illumines our living.  Don’t say that sometimes it is like sucking on a nail.  Do not go hunting for pleasant sensations.  Rather, seek the truth that sustains like a rock and which is also light that reassuringly warms the heart.  However, it must be lived every day.

Lord, free  from the shifting sands of a life that is only words, but grant that Your Word may illumine me and sustain me in my decision to read it, pray it, and live it at any cost.

The voice of Antonella Lumini, a Hermit in the City

The calm trust of the baby wrapped in the mysterious warmth that emanates from the mother; thus is the soul faithful in praying the word.  It is quieted in the embrace of the Holy Spirit, the Consoler.
