Seventh Wednesday of Easter

From the Word of the Day

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. (John 17: 17)

How should we live this Word Jesus appears

Before returning to the Father, Jesus entrusts His disciples to Him in the desire that where He is going, they will also later be, in the immense joy of the Holy Trinity.  During His life on earth, He had protected them and preserved them from the solicitation of evil.  None of them had been lost because those who believe in Him will not die.  No one will take them from His hands.  The Father’s will is that He will not lose anyone of those entrusted to Him.

Now, however, it must be the Father who guards them directly and preserves them, assisting them in the journey of truth.  Since the Word of God is truth itself, Jesus asks the Father to consecrate them in the truth that is total immersion in the Easter Mystery; the Death and Resurrection of Jesus that continually enters the veins of the Mystical Body, the church, and renews everything.

Perhaps we do not recall enough this strong, stupendous request that Jesus makes to the Father for us:  that of being consecrated in the Truth which accompanies us day by day with the Word of God at daily Mass.  It means being preserved from the contagion of evil that is also present in our days.  It is important to listen to this Word, accept it, and assume it in the concrete situations of our life.

Lord Jesus, please grant that I may truly let myself be consecrated in truth, which is the redeeming power of Your Love, in all that I live without ever losing sight of Your Presence in me.

The Voice of St. Mary Mazzarello, Co-foundress of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians

Be cheerful always.  Be very good; work with your whole heart only for Jesus; and pray so that one day we may all be in Paradise.  (Letter 19 to the missionary Sr. Giovanna Borgna)
