Third Thursday of Easter

From the Word of the Day

I am the living bread come down from Heaven.  (John 6: 51)

How should we live this WordBread 2

Jesus is living bread that comes down from Heaven and transmits life.  Like the manna in the desert that nourished the people of Israel as they journeyed toward the Promised Land, Jesus, who has the same life of the Father, the Living One par excellence, nourishes us on our journey toward Heaven in an even more marvelous way.  It is a manifestation of His love so that we can be transformed into Him and give Him to our sisters and brothers with our joyful charity.   We prepare ourselves for eternity during this life.  Therefore, it is necessary to nourish ourselves with a food that prepares us for this and, in a certain sense, anticipates it and becomes the ‘medicine of immortality.  It is the antidote against death; the food to live forever in Jesus Christ’, as St. Ignatius of Antioch wrote in his letter to the Ephesians, 20: 2.

Jesus, living bread come down from Heaven, nourish your Church.

Jesus, true bread that the Father has given us, nourish your Church.

Jesus, food of the redeemed, nourish Your Church.

Jesus, Viaticum of the dying, nourish Your Church.

The Voice of Pope Francis

The Eucharist is not a prize for the perfect, but a generous remedy and food for the weak.

(Evangelii Gaudium November 24, 2013, 351)
