EASTER TUESDAY

From the Word of the Day

But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.  And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been.  And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where they laid him.”  When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus.  Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?”  She thought it was the gardener and said to him, “Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him.”  Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni,” which means Teacher.  Jesus said to her, “Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’  Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and what he told her.                    (John 20: 11-18)

How should we live this Wordresurrection

A woman stands before the empty tomb and weeps.  It is a time of solitude and mystery.  Mary Magdalene feels lost, dispersed but she does not stop searching.  Love is strong for that Master who had understood her in her depths.  He had scrutinized her intimately and had forgiven her.  Like the spouse in the Song of Songs, the woman braved the night, she ran, she cried tears of love and sorrow.  There are moments in life when everything goes wrong.  It seems that all is finished; disastrous deaths, sufferings, delusions, betrayals.  There are so many things that can take the earth from under us and bring us anguish.

But a miracle can happen.  There is a voice in the night, a beloved voice: ‘Mary’!  It is the Lord, the Master and the woman rises with Him.  She is wild with joy.  She kneels at His feet and adores Him.  Now she is attentive to listen to what will be asked of her and it makes her fly: she will be a missionary of the Gospel.

Today I will pray: Lord Jesus, died and risen for me, call me by name and ask me what You want me to do.

The Voice of Carlo Maria Martini

Mary Magdalene seems the person most involved in searching for signs and through the signs, the presence of the Lord.  Even if she is the least enlightened, nonetheless, she is the most intense in her affection.
