34th Saturday in Ordinary Time

From the Word of the Day

“Be attentive that your hearts do not become heavy.”

(Luke: 21: 34)

How should we live this Wordl'abbraccio del Padre

Jesus is ending His discourse and the beautiful comes at the end.  The many terrible catastrophic warning signs can be nothing compared to what can be born in our heart.  Jesus puts us on guard regarding ourselves.  Disaster is built with our choices, with our inattention that may lead to heaviness of heart.  St Paul makes a list of negative attitudes that produce this mortifying situation: rancor, hatred, gossiping, resentments, and revenge.  The story of Cain and Abel that the sacred authors have placed as the emblematic beginning of life in the world seem to be repeated by each generation.  To love is to choose to do so.  Our choices are built with perseverance.  Otherwise, chaos prevails and destruction can arise from chaos.

In my pause for silent contemplation, I will consider my choices in the light of the Word of Jesus.  Are they in conformity with His love?

Lord, I entrust my heart to You and my ability and will to choose the good, to live in Your love.  Please, guard it.

The Voice of Matthew 28: 20

Behold, I am with you all days until the end of the world, says the Lord.
