EASTER THURSDAY

From the Word of the Day

“While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, ‘Peace be with you!’  But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost.”      (Luke 24: 36)

How should we live this Word

How often we struggle with our phantoms!  Our imaginations build these monsters that incarnate our fJesus appearsears, our painful memories, and make life strange, ineffable.  Is it reality or fantasy?  Is this the way it is or am I imagining it?  These phantasms often determine our choices and compromise our freedom.  How hard it is to free ourselves of them and keep a healthy, authentic rapport with reality.

In my pause for silent contemplation, I shall relish the intimate presence of Jesus within me and ask Him to guide my thoughts and render them pure and authentic. The Risen Jesus enters into this human dimension.  In human life, He had through His gestures and words penetrated the behaviors and thoughts of the human heart.  Now with His resurrection, He enfleshes the fears and sentiments that direct our life.  And the presence of Jesus evangelizes those as well.  The risen Jesus evangelizes our interior reality that involves our mind, our heart, and our body.  His presence affects us, bringing us peace, restoring our equilibrium, freeing us from the confusion that impedes us from distinguishing reality and imagination.

Lord, I entrust myself to You!  The presence of Your new life in me restores harmony to my person, my body, my spirit, my soul.

The Voice of Enzo Bianchi, Monk

Go and powerfully proclaim: The resurrection of Jesus does not only mean that –as for every great historical personage – his cause continues, his teaching does not die, his message is alive, but rather that He, His entire human person, dead on the cross and buried, has been raised by God to glorious and eternal life.
