First Friday of Lent

From the Word of the Day

“Go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”

 (Matthew 5: 24)

How should we live this Wordl'abbraccio del Padre

Our prayer cannot be sincere and true if it does not come from a mind that is free of negative and evil thoughts.  Only charity and forgiveness can make our prayer efficacious and authentic.  Life is realized in the fullness of love, without the weight of useless baggage and without collecting the rocks thrown in our garden in order to throw them back later.During this Lent, Jesus asks us to be ready for reconciliation and recommends that before we go to pray and give our gift at the altar, we must remove from our heart rancor, envy, fighting, and misunderstandings.  We are invited to have a heart that is good and merciful, that knows how to forgive always and in every situation, one that takes the first step in approaching a person who has offended me.

In my pause for silent contemplation, I will ask Jesus to help me rid my heart of all that is an obstacle to true prayer and offering.

Lord, help me to extinguish evil with forgiveness and reconciliation in imitation of Your limitless, merciful love. Help me to think well of everyone and, if I must correct them, to do so with the greatest charity.

The Voice of Silvio Pellico, Author

Sometimes by forgiving a wrong received we can change an enemy into a friend and even a perverse person into one of noble sentiments.
