Fifth Wednesday in Ordinary Time Our Lady of Lourdes

From the Word of the Day

“Jesus summoned the crowd again and said to them, ‘Hear me, all of you and understand.  Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile’.”

 (Mark 7: 14-15)

How should we live this WordJesus preaching

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will ask Jesus to fill my mind and heart with healthy thoughts that lead to good actions in His sight and prevent me from gossiping. The body has its own needs, just as the spirit does.  Both have their own proper needs and as a consequence we must give to both the just measure that God has destined for them.  We must eat what is given us, because the body must be cared for.  The spirit too needs its freedom.  What good is it for one to boast of fasting and then has filled his/her heart with every kind of perverse thought?  Would it not be wiser to make the heart fast rather than the stomach?

Help me, Lord, to vigil over my heart and thoughts so that only what edifies may come forth from me and never what destroys.

The Voice of Pope Francis in his homily on May 18, 2013

How much gossip there is in the Church!  How much Christians gossip!  Gossip does evil to each other.  It is as though I would want to diminish another person.  Instead of increasing my growth, I diminish another person and I feel bigger.  This is not right!  I don’t know why, but it seems nice to gossip, like honey candy.  You take one and like it and then you take another and another.  This is how gossiping is.  At first it is sweet and then it destroys you; it destroys your soul.   Gossip is destructive in the Church; it is destructive.  It is like the spirit of Cain.  It kills our sister, our brother with the tongue.  It kills!
