Third Friday in Ordinary Time

From the Word of the Day

“Do not throw away your confidence; it will have great recompense.”

(Hebrews 10: 35)

How should we live this Wordjesus_throne_1[1]

They are truly meek like lambs, simple as doves, but tenacious and strong as well.  This way of being in their reality permits the Gospel to enter into the culture of their times and change it.  The Gospel clothes the attitudes and behaviors of the people and writes a new law in their hearts.Confidence is one of the most beautiful gifts the apostles had and demonstrate in the first years of the Church.  It is the capacity to say the truth without fear.  The Spirit who inhabits them makes them sensitive to the truth and courageous.  Thus they face impossible situations without aggressiveness, sadism, or masochism whether it is death threats, denigrations, calumnies, unjust imprisonment, or cruel martyrdom.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I shall become a new person by receiving the new law of Jesus, taking on His attitudes and ways of acting.

Lord, our times need new women and men.  Give me the courage to cry out the Gospel with power in today’s culture, without any fundamentalism, oppressiveness, but with the loving truth.  Help me to re-state what work, relationships, and hope mean for us as human beings.

The Voice of Joseph Moscati, Holy Doctor

Love the truth.  Show who you are transparently, and without fear or concern.  And if the truth costs you persecution, accept it.  And if torment comes, support it.  And if for the truth you should have to sacrifice yourself and your life, be strong in the sacrifice.
