Second Friday in Ordinary Time

From the Word of the Day

“Jesus…summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him.”

(Mark 3: 13)

How should we live this WordJesus and apostles

Jesus chooses the Apostles to make them His collaborators and instruments to proclaim and spread His charity and truth.  They are human beings, from different backgrounds, and with different characters.  They respond to the Lord’s call that gathers them together and creates unity.  They will have to remain with him, frequenting Him, listening to Him, meditating on His words in order to announce His message to the world.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will renew my ‘yes’ to be Jesus’ apostle and spread His Word everywhere I go with the witness of my life.As Christians we too are called to follow Jesus, to remain with Him, to share with everyone the love of Christ.  We are to respect diversity even of other sister churches and every other truly religious sentiment.

Lord, teach me to receive others in their diversity, seeing them as a gift of Your Spirit.  Help me to gather the seeds of the Word in every human being.

The Voice of Pope Benedict XVI

A vocation is not the fruit of a human plan or an organizational strategy.  In its deepest reality, it is a gift of God, a mysterious and ineffable initiative of the Lord, who enters into the life of a person, seducing it with the beauty of His love and arousing, as a consequence, the total and definitive gift of self to this divine love.
