FIRST TUESDAY of ADVENT

From the Word of the Day

“Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, ‘I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike’.”

 (Luke 10:21)

How should we live this Wordbaby

Jesus rejoices in praising the Father who reveals His secrets, not to those who are erudite or who presume to know everything already, but to the little ones, the simple of heart, to those who are not complicated or look down on others.  This means that we must listen to the Lord with humility and readiness to live His Word, to open ourselves to marvel at the mystery of tenderness and of life.

Advent is an excellent time to deepen our awareness of the immense gift of grace and divine light. It is a time to renew a child-like spirit that makes us open to gaze on the face of the Baby, the Son of God, who became a fragile creature in order to bring us back to our original innocence.

Today as I pause for silent contemplation, I shall ponder what it meant for God to become a human being and I will marvel at such love.

Lord, make my life transparent for Your Love and Your Light that I may receive You with simplicity, in the awareness of my littleness before You.

The voice of Pope Francis, Homily of January 21, 2014

Christian fidelity, our fidelity is simply guarding our littleness so that we may dialogue with our Lord.  To guard our littleness we need humility, meekness, kindness, all of which are so important in the life of a Christian because they guard the littleness that is so pleasing to the Lord.  It will always be a dialogue between our littleness and the Lord’s greatness.
