Thirty-fourth Thursday in Ordinary Time

From the Word of the Day

“Stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.”

 (Luke 21:28)

How should we live this Wordcreation

The signs of the end of the world will be dramatic, but they will belong to a cosmic language.  The cosmos cannot be compared in any way to the ball our children play with!  The entire cosmos, all that has been created by God and has gone through eons of evolution, will live a deep transfiguration more than any destruction.

It will not be the case to go to hide in some refuge as in the time of aerial bombardments.  For those who have lived their ‘yes’ to seek God with their whole heart and live the essence of His teachings – love, it will be a time of great hope.

The dawn of eternal day will rise without any anxiety and there will be the joy of being loved and of loving, precisely what human hearts have always thirsted for.  This is why the text is an invitation to ‘raise our heads’ without any sentiments of affliction.  We need to understand that as Christians we do not view life as a cemetery journey, contemplating a row of tombs.  Rather, it is turning our head and our mind and our heart on high, to heaven, in total freedom.  We are children of hope!

Today as I pause for silent contemplation, I shall dwell on the magnificent surprise Jesus has prepared for me in Heaven and ask Him to help me keep faithful to Him always.

Help me Lord, to persevere in looking on high to Your Heaven and to You, Jesus, who are my salvation and sustain me on the way that is just, good, and holy.

The voice of Paul VI

Today human beings think, act, and live thanks to the credit that hope gives us.
