ALL SAINTS DAY

From the Word of the Day

“Rejoice and exalt, because great is your reward in Heaven.”

 (Matthew 5: 12)

How should we live this Word Revelation144000JewsSEALED_250

A nursery school teacher had brought her class to visit a Church where the Saints were portrayed on stained glass windows.  At school, the Pastor asked the little ones, “who are the Saints?’  A child responded, “They are the ones who let the light pass through”.

The celebration of All Saints day brings us to contemplate our sisters and brothers who lived as daughters and sons of God.  They imitated Jesus in their life and now they enjoy the glory of heaven.  They are our models because, although weak and sinful like us, they let themselves be transformed by God’s mercy.  They showed their love by receiving the Gospel message and living the ‘beatitudes’ in their life.  They helped the poor, worked for justice, and forgave.  They did not have recourse to violence.  They were persecuted for defending truth and honesty.

Today as I pause for silent contemplation, I will rejoice with my sister and brother saints and ask them to help me to become a saint as well.

O Lord, You call us to be Your witnesses and to imitate the saints in their friendship with You.  Help me to be transparent so that Your love may help me ‘to do ordinary things in an extraordinary way’.  Holiness consists in this St. Theresa of the Child Jesus used to say.

The voice of the Saints

The Saints are like many tiny mirrors in which we contemplate Jesus Christ. (St. John Vianney, the Cure of Ars).

True holiness consists in doing God’s will with a smile.  (Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta)
