Twelfth Wednesday in Ordinary Time

From the Word of the Day

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves.  By their fruits you will know them.”

(Matthew 7: 15)

How should we live this Word? bluete4

Jesus knows in depth the mystery of human beings.  When people live the Gospel they are like good trees that bring forth good fruit.  Instead, when they turn their back on God and His will for good, they can pretend as much as they want, but in the depths of their heart, they are like ravenous wolves.

As we read these strong words of Jesus, we are tempted to identify the false prophets with persons we know and circulate in our places.  So that it would not be a decisive condemnation of the person, we condemn certain ways of being and behaving.  However, what we must do is ask the Lord to help us to avoid being hypocrites in our way of being, appearing like significant and good persons on the outside, but inside nourishing evil, malevolence, injustice, avidity, and oppressiveness towards others.

With great realism, Jesus gives us the reliable criteria for understanding.  He tells us it is by its fruit that we shall judge the tree.  Thus, if I notice arrogance, oppressiveness, or envy in my life, I must be attentive!

Today in my time of contemplation, I will take inventory of my way of thinking, of acting, and of treating others and ask Jesus to help me to make any changes that are needed.

Lord, help me to avoid all duplicity.  Help me to be a good ‘tree’ that can produce ‘good fruit’ for You, justice, goodness of heart, benevolence, generosity, nobility in my thoughts, and the will to bless everyone and to help them as much as I can.

We must learn to think well of everyone, do good to everyone and evil to no one…and let the birds sing!
