Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord

From the Word of the Day

“Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem!  Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you.  See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the Lords shines, and over you appears his glory.”

(Isaiah 60: 1-2)

How should we live this Word 3

On this feast of the Epiphany, which means MANIFESTATION, nothing can be more joyful than this invitation to Jerusalem, the people of the promise, and today, to every believer.  Certainly, Isaiah spoke to a people who often willingly forgot the Lord’s promises.  They were prone on the ground without the will or the joy to walk according to God’s plan.

The inspired words of Isaiah are valid today as well.  The Lord invites us to jump up, allowing ourselves to be clothed in a garment of light of the infinite will of goodness God expressed in Christ Jesus, in His coming in our midst, in His wanting to make us like Him through grace.  The Lord Jesus is EMMANUEL, God among us.  Living Epiphany means letting ourselves be clothed in Him who reveals the mystery of the Father, His infinite love and salvation.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will bask in the radiant light that envelops me in God’s love.

Dear Jesus, please clothe me in Your way of thinking, in Your way of acting, in Your giving Yourself unconditionally.  Even within my limitations, let me shine with Your presence in my daily life, joyfully spending myself for love.

The Voice of St. John Vianney, Saintly Pastor

This precious gift of faith will be taken from us, and given to others, if we do not make a practical use of it.
